Abraham lived the life of unlimited possibility in the old covenant. The Lord called him out of his homeland to go to a land of abundance, a land where there was boundless possibility, a land that flows with milk and honey. The Lord has called us out of the land that has borders into the land that flows with abundance. Canaan is no longer a place; it is a way of life, eternal life, a life of blessing, and a life of refreshing, a life of righteousness, joy and peace.
God said to Abraham, lift up your eyes and look from the place where you are, northward, southward, eastward and westward. For all the land which you see I give to you, and your descendants forever. (Genesis 13:14-15) This ball of enormous wonder we live on was his inheritance along with the church of Jesus Christ. (Galatians 3:16-18, 29) By faith Abraham could see down the road a long way, he was not limited by the boundaries that his eyes or senses imposed upon him.
Canaan was a land of endless possibility, more than that, the seed of faith God planted in Abraham and Sarah, was the promise of eternal life, boundless life, life that never stops or loses its power. It’s like a nuclear reaction; and one explosion brings about another. Isaac was the beginning of the blessing and the promise continues to multiply to this day. The promise of God to Abraham brought about the most powerful force on the earth today, the Church, which is filled with the Spirit and the power of God. Abraham could see past all the obstacles the sense realm could possibly impose upon him.
Lord, open our eyes that we may know the hope of your calling, the wealth of your inheritance and the power of God in us. (Ephesians 1:18-20) Lord, enlarge our vision so that we can see like Abraham, down the road into forever. Lord Jesus enlarge our vision to encompass the whole earth and beyond that, the souls of lost humanity. Lift up your eyes like Abraham and look. Today ask for a renewed passion for people who are lost and without hope, Jesus is faithful. He did say whatever things you ask when you pray believe that you receive them and you will have them. (Mark 11:24)
